Bulgaria – the hunting paradise of the Balkans

A true adventure amid the wild beauty of the Balkans

Bulgaria has over 10,000 sq. km of forested land—roughly one tenth of the country—ideal for breeding game and practicing hunting tourism. Mountains, valleys and nature reserves offer diverse conditions for an exciting hunting experience. The hunting season traditionally begins in mid‑August with small migrating game hunts: quail, turtle dove, wood pigeon, snipe and others. From October 1 you can hunt big game—stags, wild boars, roe deer—as well as pheasants, grey partridges and more.

Discover one of Europe’s most attractive hunting tourism destinations. The country combines ancient hunting traditions, rich biodiversity and professionally organized tours with experienced guides. Spend unforgettable days in the wild—in a safe and well‑organized setting.

Hunters in Bulgaria fully recognize their responsibility toward game and nature. There are targeted programs for conservation and sustainable management of wildlife populations. The National Hunters and Anglers Union plays a key role in biodiversity preservation. Hunting of 22 species is permitted under strict regulation and control.

HUNTING – A SPORT

Hunting is not only an exciting sport but also one of the most pleasant ways to get close to nature and obey its laws. The true reward for a hunter is not only the unique trophy but the experience itself. Yet, the thrill of encountering Bulgaria’s flora and fauna can be just as strong without a weapon. In some places, “photo‑hunting” is deeply respected as a way to conserve and admire the wild world.

WINE TASTING & LOCAL CUISINE

Over 5,000 years ago, winemaking began in today’s Bulgaria. The Thracians introduced viticulture and winemaking – some of the most famous ancient vintners. You can taste exquisite Bulgarian wine varieties from established estates, as well as traditional brandy (rakia) made from grapes, peaches, or plums. Enjoy selected Bulgarian appetizers: cheese, kasseri, cured meats, sujuk and other specialties.
